The media center PC is a strange griffin in the zoology of home computers. Anyone seriously interested in a media center has tethered a spare PC by HDMI umbilical to their flat screen television and enjoy internet content from the snug, supine glory of the couch. Those who haven’t are likely using their computers at a desk, and that computer’s very placement defines its function as being less about watching movies than doing more traditional computer work.
The media center PC, then, is a strange niche product answering the actual needs of no one: it is more expensive than a home theater PC and an office PC. But that hasn’t stopped Onkyo Japan from announcing the latest in their line of Sotec machines, the E702A9.
