Dell multi-touch Studio One 19 All-In-One now available

All-in-ones have been de rigeur ever since Apple first pioneered them with their sexy iMac line of desktops, but now Dell is entering the fray with the sexy Studio One 19.

Available now in the United States starting at $699, the Studio 19 series starts off with a 2.5GHz dual core Intel CPU, an 18.5 inch LCD at a rather paltry 1366×768, 2GBs of RAM, a slot-load DVD burner, nVidia GeForce 9200 graphics, a built-in web came and a 320GB hard drive.

Where the Studio One 19 gets interesting is if you plonk down an extra hundred dollars for the multi-touch display, which will allow you to manipulate photos and text by swiping, turning or pivoting one or more fingers across the screen.

You can go higher end, of course. The Studio One 19’s beefiest configuration starts at under $1000 and features a quad-core CPU, 64-bit Windows Vista, 4gb of RAM, a 500GB hard drive and an nVidia GeForce 9400 GPU. An additional $80 will buy you a 650GB hard drive, and another $150 will get you a slot-loaded Blu-Ray drive.

It’s not a bad deal for about a grand, it comes in the usual Studio series color options, including navy, charcoal, pink and red for an extra 20.

The big issue here is screen real estate. 1366×768 is rather laughable for a 19-inch desktop in this day and age, and there’s no option to improve it. But if you want to leap into multi-touch, this is an inexpensive kit to get your bearings with the technology.
